What is GaN, and why does it charge faster?

Rongjun GaN fast charger

Gallium nitride (GaN) is a semiconductor material that is rapidly replacing silicon in fast chargers. Because GaN conducts electricity more efficiently and can handle higher voltages at higher temperatures, engineers can build chargers that are smaller, cooler and more powerful than their silicon predecessors.

Smaller by design

GaN components switch faster and waste less energy as heat. That means fewer and smaller internal parts are needed to deliver the same wattage — which is how a modern 65W GaN charger can be the same size as an old 35W silicon one.

Cooler and more efficient

Less wasted energy means less heat. Lower operating temperatures improve safety, extend component life, and let a charger deliver full power continuously without throttling. For multi-port chargers, this is what allows fast charging across several devices at once.

Why it matters for your products

  • Slimmer, lighter, more premium-feeling products
  • Higher power in a smaller footprint
  • Better efficiency and thermal safety
  • A clear marketing story your customers understand

At Rongjun, we take this further with self-developed GaN chips and a proprietary one-piece transformer, enabling our ultra-thin “biscuit” series — some of the slimmest PD fast chargers available today.
