Two questions come up in almost every charger sourcing conversation: "What is your MOQ?" and "How long will it take?" Getting clear answers early lets you plan inventory, marketing and cash flow with confidence. Here is exactly how minimum order quantities, sampling and lead times work when you source GaN chargers.
What MOQ to expect
Minimum order quantity depends on how much customization you need:
- OEM — MOQ 500 units per model. You take an existing, already-certified charger and brand it: your logo, colour, finish, plug standard and packaging. Because the electronics and certifications already exist, the minimum is low and the risk is small.
- ODM — MOQ 5,000 units. You design a new charger with a custom mould and unique enclosure. This requires fresh tooling and new certification, so the minimum is higher.
If you are launching a new brand, starting with OEM on a proven model — say one of our 65W GaN chargers — lets you enter the market at 500 units instead of committing to a 5,000-unit mould.
Why the minimums differ
A custom mould is a real, one-time manufacturing investment. Tooling has to be cut, tested and certified before a single sellable unit exists, and that cost is spread across the order — which is why ODM needs volume to make sense. Sampling timeline
For OEM models, samples typically ship in 7–10 days. That gives you a physical unit to approve build quality, real charging performance and your branding before committing to a production run. Custom ODM samples take longer, because the mould and tooling must be produced first — usually several weeks depending on complexity.
Always test a sample against the things that generate returns: actual output versus the rated wattage, heat under sustained load, finish and fit, and whether your logo and box print cleanly.
Mass production lead time
Once samples are approved and your order is confirmed, mass production generally runs 15–30 days, depending on order volume, the level of customization and current factory scheduling. Larger or highly customized orders sit at the upper end; repeat orders of a standard model run faster.
Shipping — the step buyers forget
Production time is not delivery time. Add shipping on top:
- Sea freight — the cheapest per unit, best for full pallets or containers, but slower (weeks in transit).
- Air freight — faster and better for smaller or urgent loads, at a higher per-unit cost.
A good manufacturer provides the export documentation you need to clear customs smoothly, which keeps that transit time predictable.
A realistic end-to-end timeline
- Quote: within 24 hours
- Samples: 7–10 days (OEM)
- Production: 15–30 days after approval
- Shipping: varies by method and destination
For a straightforward OEM order, going from first inquiry to goods in hand in roughly 5–7 weeks is typical. Plan your marketing and listings around that window so stock and launch line up.
How to move faster
You can compress the timeline: send a complete spec up front, approve samples quickly, and choose an existing model rather than a custom mould where possible. Working with a real manufacturer — one with its own GaN chips and in-house production — also avoids the delays that come from trading companies coordinating third-party factories.
