Sourcing GaN chargers from China is the fastest, most cost-effective way for a brand or distributor to build a fast-charging product line. The country's power-electronics supply chain — GaN chip makers, PCB suppliers and testing labs all within a few hours of each other — means lower unit costs and shorter lead times than you can get almost anywhere else. But the gap between a smooth launch and an expensive mistake usually comes down to how you choose and work with your manufacturer. Here is a practical, step-by-step guide.

1. Define your specification before you contact anyone

The clearest inquiries get the fastest, most accurate quotes. Before you email a single supplier, write down:

  • Wattage range — are you after everyday 65W GaN chargers, a laptop-class 100W model, or a premium 140W charger with a display? Most lines start with one or two wattages.
  • Port layout — single USB-C, dual-port, or multi-port with a built-in cable.
  • Plug standards — US, UK, EU, CN or AU, matched to the markets you sell in.
  • Target certifications — driven by where you sell (see step 3).
  • Branding & packaging — your logo, colour, and retail-ready box.

A tight brief signals that you are a serious buyer, and it lets a factory quote precisely instead of hedging.

2. Choose a real factory, not a trading company

Many "suppliers" online are trading companies that resell other factories' products with a markup. A genuine manufacturer gives you better pricing, direct engineering support and real control over quality. Three questions quickly separate the two:

  • Do you develop your own GaN chips, or buy them? (This matters more than almost anything — here is why self-developed GaN chips matter.)
  • Do you have in-house R&D and your own production line?
  • Can I see the factory, on video or in person?

A real factory answers these easily and will happily show you the line. A reseller deflects.

3. Verify certifications for every market you sell in

Chargers must be certified for the destination market, and marketplaces like Amazon will ask for the paperwork:

  • Europe / UK: CE, UKCA, RoHS
  • United States: FCC, and UL or ETL for safety
  • China: CCC
  • International: CB scheme

4. Order samples and test them properly

Never place a bulk order without approving a sample first. Reputable manufacturers ship OEM samples in 7–10 days. When yours arrive, test real charging speed against the rated wattage, check how warm the unit runs under load, inspect build quality and finish, and confirm your logo and packaging look right. A sample that disappoints is far cheaper than a container that does.

5. Understand MOQ and lead times up front

Typical minimums are around 500 units per model for OEM branding, and 5,000 for a custom-mould ODM design. Mass production usually runs 15–30 days after sample approval. 6. Agree terms, payment and shipping in writing

Confirm payment terms (a deposit with the balance before shipment is standard), the shipping method (sea freight is cheaper, air is faster), export documentation, and after-sales support. A manufacturer that provides export paperwork and supports your compliance filing removes a lot of risk from your side.

7. Decide between OEM and ODM

OEM puts your brand on a proven, already-certified charger — low risk and fast to launch. ODM designs new hardware unique to you, with its own mould and certification. Many buyers start with OEM to enter the market, then move a best-seller to a custom ODM design once volume proves out.
